I'm a bad blogger

I've been delinquent in blogging a bit lately.   After the marathon, I took some time off, and then it was Thanksgiving and then the holiday parties came, and before I knew it it was 2011 and I hadn't really gotten up off my ass much to run or ride.   I feel like a bit of a fatass.   But on the upside I am trying something new.  I'm starting to run with Vibram Five Fingers KSO.

I really enjoy them.  They give a pretty close feeling to running barefoot, but they Keep Stuff Out (KSO).  The downside is that they take a while to have your body adjust to the different muscles that are used when you run with the new "shoes."   Running barefoot or with minimalists shoes moves your gait forward on your feet off of your heels and engages your calves more.   It also seems to cause you to stand up a bit straighter.   My lower back muscles were sore for a couple runs - although that seems to pass.  My calves - particularly my right one- are still pretty sore immediately after the run, but they do seem to be recycling (for lack of a better word) much quicker than at the start.

Anyway, I'll keep you posted on how my body progresses with the new shoes.
